At The School Printer we believe that there is duty and opportunity for everyone to stake a claim in environmental responsibility.
Our route towards minimising our impact on the environment began in 2006 when, as A Local Printer Ltd, a small commercial printer in Sussex, we took the decision to launch an eco-friendly printing website with specific goals:
To invest in, improve and enhance our printing facilities and become wholly environmentally responsible for our action.
To specifically produce and promote affordable eco-friendly printed products
To guide and influence our customers in making eco-friendly choices for their printing.
To make a difference to the planet in how we operate by embracing social and eco initiatives, such as Love Paper, Printers Against Plastic and Ecologi Carbon Offsetting
At The School Printer, we’re more than a print provider—we’re your partner in sustainability. By combining advanced technology with eco-friendly materials and processes, we help schools reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining exceptional quality.
Since 2018, we have been offsetting our carbon emissions. Our Carbon Footprint is calculated using the Sustrax carbon calculator, which gauges both location-based and market-based GHG emissions. In March 2024, we partnered with Ecologi, a transparent and proactive organisation that clearly shows where the trees we buy each month are planted and the positive impact of their efforts. Additionally, most of our papers are carbon offset through our paper suppliers, who collaborate with Woodland Trust and Carbon Footprint on carbon capture initiatives.
All of our products are plastic-free, including our packaging. We utilise 100% recycled cardboard boxes, and any filler is made from shredded waste boxes - environmentally friendly, effective for packing, and aligned with our 'reuse where possible' commitment.
Our paper is either recycled or produced from trees cultivated specifically for paper. Our inks are vegetable oil-based or eco-toners free of plastic particles. Additionally, our laminates are bio-based, recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable.
At The School Printer, we are committed to ensuring that printed products do not harm the environment; our goal is to eliminate plastic from every aspect of our operations.
All the printed products we provide are completely recyclable and biodegradable. Several of our products are certified as fully compostable. We select only reputable papers sourced from responsibly managed forests. These materials adhere to strict environmental and social responsibility standards. Additionally, you can opt for 100% recycled paper for the most eco-friendly choice.
Our printing methods are entirely eco-friendly, utilising waterless litho presses that employ vegetable oil-based inks, and digital presses which use environmentally friendly toners.
All our manufacturing and business waste is gathered for recycling. We sort our paper waste by type—white, printed, packaging—and send it to a certified recycling facility. Similarly, plastic waste, like pallet wrap, is stored and collected separately for recycling.
As a trading element of A Local Printer, we are certified to ISO 14001, the international standard that specifies the requirements for an effective Environmental Management System. It pertains to environmental aspects that the organisation controls and can influence.
